Seatbelt tensioner query

Hi all, I'm in the middle of changing the cloth interior in my TD Ultima estate for the rather nice Pumice leather that was in the spares car. ( see my wanted post for the bit of trim I broke!) I've currently got half leather, the back seat I'm planning to change the front seats next week and I would appreciate any advice on the seat belt tensioners. The TD is registered in August 96 and the 2.3 spares car is registered in May '97. Both front seats on this are electric and heated, so are the seatbelt pre tensioners going to be electric or manual and what precautions should I take when changing the seats over? There's no airbags in the seat to worry about, just the dash and steering wheel ones. Cheers Jim

THIS page and the links on the left to the airbag and seat manual may help.

In short: 1) Disconnect the battery 2) Look at the tensioners, because the model changed acording to production date. I did the same thing taking the interior from a 95 ultima as a replacement to my 96 ghia, i used the same chair sleds and tensioners from the 96 one and only the seats from the older one.

Thanks for the info guys I had read the manual and just wondered about the locking tab they speak about if they are the non electric ones. I think mine should be the later types! Cheers Jim

If they are manual - the transit lock will not be present, you may be able to fashion a locking tab but you should not need to if you are careful and do not drop the unit (I speak from experience!). Dave
