Hi Scorpio-Man,
Thank you for your reply.well the 'p' reg she has now is the 2.3 16v as in the picture, the scrap 'm' reg thats still on her driveway is a 2.0ltr as in the pictures....and i did look today at both abs pumps...and although they are in the same location on the wing...they seem a little different..i can see the module sitting under the pump on the 2.0ltr..but not on the 2.3..it just seems to be the pump..there are wires running to it..so i would think fords changed something over the years with these models.??.anyway im hoping the bulb has blown on the instrument cluster...hope luck is on my side for once Smiley....thank you again scorpio-man...regards den. Sorry don't know the voltage.
Not heard of one failing before, I would suspect something else.
Can't remember off hand whether cutting the feed to the light would cause it to stay on or go off.
There's a contact in the big plug to the ABS that shorts out when you unplug it which I think makes the light come on so probably a break in the wire would make it stay off.

The wiring diagrams should be here, but the site is down at the moment:

Hi all,
I can update my last posts regarding the abs....today i did a voltage check on all wires from all the fuses concerned with the abs unit...and wire continuity to the plug at the abs unit from the fuses...all checked out ok...so its the led at fault or the abs ecu has gone down lock-stock and barrel....well i now know what i have to do to get it working as it should...looks to me like i can remove the abs ecu by undoing a few small nuts and removing it,that way the main body can stay put.....and no brake pipes to remove....a job for the better weather i think..thanks to all who helped out with this problem..regards den. Smiley.

Best to use the right socket, female version of torx bit (well it is on mine). I got by using an ordinary socket 'till, it chewed up one of them & I had to drill it out.

yes i will do that tompion, the ecu seems to be held by 4 small nuts...i take it that once these nuts are un-done the ecu will come off the main body of the abs unit...i feel im close to solving this abs light problem...of course it could be the LED thats been taken out...i will have a look when the weather warms up a little.thank you again..regards den. Yes it comes off easily, although the bolts can be troublesome if corroded. Both the units I have were held with bolts using this type of socket:

Have a look here you may see something of use:

thank you for that info tompion, and my daughters 2.3 ultima has the teves 20,as you have shown in the picture...in another post by another member i have just read that when the plug is removed from the ecu...a sprung contact closes and lights the abs light on the dash.....well i have had the plug off the ecu many times and not once has the abs light came on,so as i said im getting close in solving this problem,so it looks to me that the LED has been removed or blown...i will find out in a day or so...then i will know what to do regarding the abs-ecu...to find another in a scrapyard to try..then if all is ok..try to repair the one i take off as you have done...in your very helpful posts...thank you again..regards den. Smiley.

Hi all.right its up-date time regarding the ABS LIGHT......today i took out the instrument cluster of the ultima...i gained access to the LEDS in the area of the clocks.....and someone in the past has used black tape to cover the ABS LED,so that is dont show on the dashboard.....ok all back togerther and ignition turned on......ABS LIGHT is on all the time...i new it would be.so its failed test stage one.....so ok....would anyone like to please tell me what its now likely to be??....ABS ECU??....so it looks like we will be visiting a scrapyard soon,i would take the ECU apart....but i would like to have a spare to hand so that the car is at least driveable while i solder the ecu board..thank you for any replies..regards den. Smiley.

The best bet is to get the codes read, I bought a lead in the end, would've saved me a lot of time if I'd done that first.
