HELP!! PLEASE I'M DESPERATE!!

hi all, i'm really hoping someone on here can help me please.
i have an escort RS2000 which is mint and totally standard, i'm trying to fit a ford 2008 cassette and 2028 cd player to it, which was an option from new.
the units i have bought are from an L reg granada scorpio.
i have plugged the cassete in (that works fine) connected the cd to it via the data lead and wired the cd player into the loom. ( i have had to splice into the power loom as my escort only has one plug and i can no longer buy the lead from ford.)
the problem is the cd player is dead, no screen to put the code in, nothing.
i would be eternally grateful and willing make a donation to the sites upkeep if anyone can tell me if i have the wires in  the wrong order on the cd player, (the only wire i'm not sure on is the thin brown and white one, and which ever pin that doesnt go on is spare) or i'm missing something or if i have wired it right and its just likely to be kaput. or any help with this at all really as its sending me up the wall!! im determined i'm not going aftermarket with the cd player!!
many thanks again.

Well I am not sure how the moderator will respond to this request as it appears not to be Scorpio related. However, I will respond as I loved the RS2000 Smiley

I am not familiar with that paticular cassette and CD slave unit but if you are certain of all but one of the wires, it would suggest you have power to the unit. So I would check the following if you have not already done so.

1. Check with a meter that you actually have +12V where you think you should have, including at the rear plug on the CD slave unit (2028 ).

2. I presume you have checked that visible fuse on the rear of the 2028.

3. Check the data cable connection between CD and cassete unit (or other cables between the two) as I presume, because the CD unit is a slave unit, power maybe controlled by the main cassette unit. Any extra fuses fitted to the cassette unit that may control the slave CD unit? Any configuration within the cassette player that can be set to "2028 attached" or "2028 not attached"?

4. Otherwise, yes, it sounds like the unit maybe faulty, but a completely dead system often denotes an internal fuse (or similar) or a rather obvious component failure within the unit. If all else fails, removing the 2028 cover may reveal a fault, and basic use of the meter may detect where +12V is and isn't.

Good luck

I'VE DONE IT!!!!!!! after a week of headscratching!!  Grin
took the cover off and found some labelling on the circuit board and worked it out from there. the acc wire was in the totally wrong spot!! thanks for trying to help me, i've donated a fiver to the site.
i'm a moderator on an RS site, and imo its a pity more sites aren't as forthcoming as you with help for people.
cheers
