No need to remove the batteries. Just programme it to your car and that is all you need to do

As far as I am aware, you can programme a keyfob for any Scorpio since 1995. The receiver is built in the car, so all you need is a suitable fob and the instructions how to programme it to your car (documented many times on this board)

Cool  Grin
If I have a remote, do I still need a programmed key to start the car?

Programming the keyfob is an entirely seperate issue to programming a key. Yes, obviously you need a programmed key to start the car, and a programmed fob to lock and unlock it ...or use a programmed key for both.

The simple answer is "No". You need 2 keys (one of which is the red master) to programme a 3rd key. So really you should always have 3 keys (the red master and 2 black). If you lose one of the black, you buy a replacement and programme it yourself.

I know what you mean if you have no red master. Ford should be able to supply you with a new red master for your car as long as you can prove ownership etc.

or you may get one much cheaper on E-bay, for example...

You can then get it cut at your local key-cutter and a local (non-Ford) auto-electrician can re-programme your PATS to the 2 keys you now have. They usually offer a mobile service to do this, and when I did it, it cost me around £60. Better than Ford prices and much quicker. He turned up within 2 hours.
