Here is the problem. I want to put the code into the radio, but the screen is blank. I have tried rubbing the screen, heating it with hair drier. Unless anyone has any other suggestions. I was thinking about trying to put the code in with out seeing the screen. I presume everything is at Zero. I start at 1 go through to 4. what do I press when I think I've got the code in...Do you think this will work? any advice as ever gratefully recieved. Thanks.

I have had this problem with my 7000 unit last year, I took out the screws from the front facia and removed the panel revealing a small ribbon cable type connector for the lcd display.  By carefully pulling it out from the slot in the lcd panel and un connecting the other end it can be cleaned, I used meths for this. it is then reinserted making sure the tracks are lined up and the whole thing is re-assembled.

This was an instant cure for this problem and has never happened again since.

The buttons on the removeable "security" panel are another problem which is caused by temperature cos it does get very hot in the car.

The middle of the panel bows out slightly and causes the pins to not connect.  A way of solving this is to rest it on a couple of pencils like a bridge, buttons up with a piece of wood or ruler pressing down on the middle with a small weight on it.  Leave it in a warm room for a couple of hours and then re insert it into the radio.  It should work then.  Another more permanent way is to glue it in the slot with contact adhesive. Roll Eyes

Let's face it, who's going to nick the radio?  Huh

The short answer is Press 5. The details are shown HERE but read the remainder as you could 'lock' the unit if your first attempts are not successful. I guess you can only try...and let us know what happens.  Undecided

Further to above.

I believe that when you first connect the radio you have to press the menu button to put the word code in the screen, press menu again and then press the 1 button as many times as required for the first digit of the code, then do the same with buttons 2, 3 and 4, then press 5 and the radio should come on.
If you go to the home page you can navigate to the handbook for the radio for clarification.

REMEMBER.. you only get 10 attempts to input the code and then it locks up....

I had the same problem with my 7000 unit. The problem wasn't the head unit but  in the cd changer. Open the boot let some warm air circulate from a drier. My screen came back to life and had no more problems since.

When the battery is reconnected then the radio should show 'code ----'   ....but in your case it won't because the screen is blank  Wink

You don't have to press any buttons apart from 1-4 & then 5 to enter  Smiley

You've got the code, so as long as the radio is on when you turn on the ignition then it's just a matter of putting the code in by counting how many times you press each buttons 1-4....then press 5 to enter  Smiley

P.S.....a '0' is ten times  Wink

If you do accidently "lock" your radio....I seem to remember if you switch everything off and come back in 30 minutes...it will be unlocked and show "CODE" again. Designed for the patient thief.

Mine is temperamental too in the display department! The last time I disconnected the battery, I just turned the radio on, carefully counted the button presses corresponded to my code and pressed button 5 to enter, worked fine for me.
That's an interesting tip on the screen fix Pete, I might give that a try on my spare unit and see what happens  Smiley

Wink Thanks so much everyone for you replies, I thought it might lock it out if I mess up too many times. I had real problems getting the serial number Off the radio as I could not get the facia off. I obviously would like to fix it as Pete suggested. I'll have another look....and keep you posted.

Thanks to all again.
