towing a caravan with an automatic

Okay before we start I don't want a caravan but she who must be obeyed has set her heart on one. Angry
So, I no longer have the scorp but my new motor has very similar specs as the 24v. Similar weight and bhp etc.
I am sure I read a post ages ago about fitting an oil cooler to the autobox,
I have my concerns about towing with my new car because as most of you will know I have already had very expensive gearbox issues.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Does your current car have a cooler like the Scorpio ? Does it get hot when driving through town ? As a general rule, the bigger the cooler is the better for the box.

Hi Octavian,
Yes the car already has an oil cooler. As for getting hot, it has the engine coolant guage and a guage for engine oil and these have never shown any signs of getting too hot .
However, That does not tell me anything about the gearbox temperature.
I have had a look at universal transmission oil coolers and for what they cost I think I will fit one anyway.

Good thinkin al,it makes all the difference to oil temp and person temp,in fact all doubts are banished, thus allowing a fair response from she who must be obeyed.
However, some manufacturers do make provision for the extra heat of towing,so it may be worth a little exploration first.

Here is a cheap auto box cooler
You could also add an electric fan with a thermostat, so when you really go uphill the box will stay cool  Smiley
