Ultima 24v 1996 Alternator amp???

Hi, hope someone can help, we need to change our alternator as our old one is faulty, however we dont know and cant find the alternators amp we looked on the alternator as best we could underneath of the car and couldn't see anything, and the place we are going to buy from says that we cant buy a new alternator without knowing it. Isn't there a standard ampage or anything we can do, they said it doesn't matter if they know our registration as that doesn't tell them anything . We know little to nothing about cars so any help would be appreciated and we cant get car to a garage as it stops and starts. We have a FORD SCORPIO ULTIMA 24V AUTO 1996

i believe its a 100 amp, but click the cursor on the words ford scorpio (top left) then the home page appears and down the left side is all the servicing/fault finding info....

Thanks for replying , I have seen that it says magneti marelli 100 amps, but the thing I am worried about is why they wouldn't know that in the spare parts place, if they know the make of car and year and registration why wouldn't they know that isn't there only one suitable alternator? thanks again
