Hello and welcome Smiley

you need one off a 2.0 16v any year, auto or manual, saloon or estate.
not the 2.0 8v as it has a 4.09

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/rearaxle/RAxleSpecs.pdf

The data on this sheet for the 2.3 16v is WRONG the 2.3 is fitted with a 3.91 diff

Good luck getting one then, i found the cheapest option is to buy a whole car Smiley

I fitted the 4.27 diff to my 24v replacing the 3.64 stock diff, makes a huge difference, both to performance and petrol consumption!!  ROFL

I sold one on ebay once for over £100, they guy who collected it said he's seen them go for £300  Shocked

Buy a non runner 2.0 16v for a couple of hundred quid, take the diff and make your money back at the scrappy Wink

This one needs £400 worth of rear shocks!

Talking of backplates...

The early models, generally M and N reg had the single mount backplate the same as your Sierra, later models have a double mount backplate, the diffs are identical though and the backplates are interchangeable..

not getting what you mean 5 stud, the driveshaft pinions on the scorpio push in and are held with a circlip, which is the same setup as the only Sierra i ever dismantled, a 2.0 ghia.

The torx bolts hold the driveshafts to the pinions.

Whats the Sierra set up?

May be referring to early type Sierra diff - driveshafts are a single unit complete with the splined ends which push into the diff & hub - not like the later type with the 6 hex / allen key bolts on each end which have separate driveshafts. The push fit driveshafts have - I think - something called 'tripode' joints - later models have CV type joints which I think are called 'lobro' ?

I might be well off track here but I think that is what the original question was about  Huh

So the Sierra driveshafts will not fit the Scorpio diff then?

Having now read the original question properly  Embarassed I would guess that a 4.27 diff with push-fit driveshafts would originally have come from an early Sierra - not sure which engine size though, most likely a 4-cylinder version as the 2.3 V6 had a 3.38 and the 2.8 V6 had a 3.62

I'm pretty sure they stopped using the push-fit driveshafts from late '84 on the Sierra in favour of the Lobro type CV joints.

Get hold of a copy of the Haynes manual for the Sierra - a couple of quid from ebay - don't forget there are 2 versions, 1 for the 4-cyl models and 1 for the V6 models.

7" and 7.5" i think the Sierra used..

the Sierra diff i removed (7" and 3.91 ratio) took 2.3 Scorpio driveshafts ok (something i tried just out of interest)

Hang on Shirlz I may have given you duff info  Shocked

Hiya, Scorpio Mike your first reply description was right about the driveshafts but supposedly the 4.27 diff was only available in Scorpio or Granadas. All your help is very much appreciated with this.

Dug out my Mk3 Granada Haynes manual - no mention of 4.27 diffs in there.
Various ratios listed, depending on engine size and spec : 3.92 / 3.62 / 3.36

Hope you get to the bottom of it !
