Fuel Computer Readings

I think I am having a few problems with my fuel computer my 2.3 scorpio ghia x ‘s’ reg. If I fill up say £20 and it has been showing zero fuel left then it will go up to approx 95 miles left. If I am driving along not even covered a mile it will be down to 91 miles then another mile down the road it will be showing 85 miles remaining. If I leave it overnight and start it up then leave it on idle it might creep back up a few miles to 88. So is there a problem or is it just not very accurate. The other day I was a mile away from the fuel station and the computer said 9 miles remaining by the time I had driven to the petrol station it was down to 0 miles. Anyone else suffered from a problem like this? Cheers guys!

Its working exactly as it should. You have it on the range setting which calculates how many miles you will be able to do at the current speed/load with the fuel you have left. The value will alter depending on how hard you drive the car, if you freewheel downhill the miles left will slowly increase

It calculates the mileage left from the fuel remaining in the tank and the last 10 avergae consumptions so when its cold it uses more fuel and vice versa . Yours does as Highlander so correctly states is working as it should. Put some fuel in and take a run on the Mway or constant speed drive and watch the mileage before empty increase.. Its quite dramatic.

I filled up mine on friday before an M11/A11 2 hour trip, from about 280 miles left (i usually only drive short distances at city speed limits (30-40 mph) After an hour and half on the motorways i was hitting 400 miles left. Its working fine.
