A/c advise needed

I have had a problem where if I have the a/c switched on and the temp set to Hi all I get is cold air blowing, well I checked for codes and got the display reading 57 so assuming this pointed to the HBC I have replaced that but still all I get is cold air - if I leave the system on auto but switch the a/c off and turn the temp down to about 24 I get warm air but as soon as I go to Hi this disappears and I get cold again - any ideas where I should be looking ??

Sometimes it can take a couple of resets to get it working correctly, I had to do mine more than a couple of times on the odd occasion

I am correct in saying that reset is performed by exiting the diagnostic mode, or is there something else I need to do ??

Hi bizzay, i just did this yesterday on mine I was not in the diagnostic mode and just followed the following instructions from the website Procedure 1. Run the engine. 2. Turn the blower switch and the air distribution switch as far left as they will go. 3. Simultaneously press the buttons for "Recirculated Air" and "A/C" for about 10 seconds until the code"00" appears on the passenger side LCD. 4. Select code "50" using the passenger side temperature control switch. 5. Press the "Recirculated Air" button until the code "00" appears. 6. Simultaneously press the buttons for "Recirculated Air" and "A/C" for about 10 seconds until the code "00" appears on the passenger side LCD. After this step the initialisation process is complete and the adjustment is finished. Hope that works for you, Jim

Right - I followed that procedure twice and I can get warm air when I set the temp to about 22-24 but if I take it to max it starts hot then drops to cold, I'll try it again tomorrow

That might be a partially blocked matrix. The fan goes to high speed to get the cab up to temp, the matrix goes cold, the fan keeps blowing flat out (it doesn't know the matrix is cold, it just knows the engine is warm enough). Try turning the fan to manual slow speed, does it stay warm then (should really be very hot), which it may do if the matrix is partially blocked.

I noticed that when I first reset it the engine had only just been started so it was as cold as it was going to be but the fan just kicked straight in at full speed when set to hi

With mine it starts of at a slow fan speed. Once the engine temp reaches 120F the fan speed increases – the level of increase varies depending on the difference between the cabin temp & the desired temp. Can't remember if that applies to hi or just to the degree settings.

Hi there....to check if the matrix is okay then get the engine up to normal running temp & check that both the matrix inlet & outlet hoses are the same hot temp (should be too hot to hold for more than a few seconds). If the outlet is cooler than the inlet then suspect a blocked or restricted heater matrix. If both pipes are hot, then switch on the heater fans at full speed & check to see if the outlet pipe starts to get cooler. If it does then again the matrix may have a restricted flow. Hope this helps

Right - I have been playing with this today, first I flushed the matrix through & there didn't appear to be any restriction at all so I put the hoses back on and ran it up to temp with the rad cap (for want of a better word) off, and the a/c set to Hi all went to plan until the fan kicked in - it was blowing cool air - then when it was up to full temp the blower was going full pelt and the air was tepid to say the least so I put the rad cap on and took her up the bypass (about 10 -15 miles) temp gauge didn't vary from dead centre and to start I had warm air for about 3 miles @ 70 but then the temp of the air dropped to cool again for the complete journey home. when I got home I lifted the bonnet & switched the blower off - the cooling fans were running and the two heater hoses were hot so I thought that maybe, just maybe I had an air lock and I would carefully remove the rad cap well I did and guess what - no pressure (but no loss of coolant either!) Then I checked the a/c again and got an error code 57 again - so I cleared this and reset the system again and I'm back to square 1 - any other ideas chaps ??
