auto box gremlin

got a 2.5td auto
drives lovely however if you emergency stop or brake heavy..the gearbox loses drive for a minute or so...the engine just revs as if in neutral..then it will engage ..i have checked the the fluid level..all ok.cplour etc..the car drives ok..
it kicks down alright..and only braking suddenly causes this to occur...
other than that..it seems ok
any ideas pls?
