some advice please

at present the autobox doesnt lock down, not a problem at the minute, i scanned my car a month ago and had fault code p0340 camshaft position sensor a circuit (bank 1 or single sensor) - circuit malfunction had the od light flashing a few times.

i erased the code and had no od light flashing until earlier this week so i scanned the car tonight and the same fault code appeared.

the car runs fine doesnt miss a beat i am stumped

im having the autobox scanned next week at a autobox specialist (if they can access it) to see if i have a fault code in there.

the connector is secure on the camshaft. the maf is also clean.

anyone had this problem or have any ideas on what to try.

hi there

have you checked the wiring to the sensor. sometimes gets caught under the sparkplug cover.

there shouldn't be any connection to the o/d light/gearbox issue, but this is a scorpio after all. Grin

i havent check the wiring to the sensor but i will check it tomorrow at work. i check on the site about the od light and what it means spent hours reading up on it, as im a vehicle technician, but still havent found why it is happening.

it could be down to an internal failure of the sensor itself, it just strange that the odlight flashes, but hopefully with the autobox scan next week it may help to see if there is a link.

just found this could it be a link i found it in the autobox section.

P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Check the connection and wiring to the CMP sensor. Be prepared to replace this sensor

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccmonitor.htm

Although there is no MIL light on the Scorpio there is a Transmission Indicator Light (TIL) - this is the Overdrive (O/D light. When this flashes the EECV has detected a hardware fault within the autobox and is alerting the driver of impaired function. The EECV may be able to 'program out' a solenoid and not call it during gear changes in order to minimise damage to the transmission, and if the EPC valve has failed the PCM will restrict the power that the engine develops - 'LOS'. In the meantime Transmission DTCs are recorded by the EECV.

also found this

If the gearbox fluid is a good red but there are driveability concerns (rising revs and thumping into gear, slipping out of top gear, torque lockup slipping in and out, Overdrive Light flashing) then there is a driveability concern. If the speedometer is erratic as well then the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) has probably failed, or the wiring connection is faulty and is not necessarily a fault with the autobox.

i am now thinking if the camshaft sensor is linked to the pcm and eecv which the gearbox is linked with, could this then cause a fault with the gearbox bringing on the od light. due to the camshaft picking up the error with revs which could then lead to incorrect change in the box which inturns brings the od light on.

i think i need to find if the box has any codes in it, to determine this theory.

what do others thinkHuh

hi there

are you using an alex pepper lead/software?

if so, you can get error codes from the gearbox using the enhanced mode, then code tab.

Not sure if a faulty camshaft sensor would cause the O/D light to flash & autobox to misbehave  Undecided

My only experience with a faulty camshaft sensor was that it was causing the engine to 'pink' quite badly  Smiley

engine doesnt pink it runs as sweet as a nut

if the camshaft failure causes an influx in revs or decrease it could cause the box to mischange due to the information the box is given, which then in turn could cause the od light to come on

could i be right in saying this?

hi there

anything's possible. i say it's not connected to your (possible) gearbox issue.

i've had a cam sensor error before and it never affected the gearbox, hence the 'check the wire isn't caught under the spark plug plate'. that's all that was wrong with mine.
