Newbie owner with a couple of questions.

Hi All I became a Scorpio owner (again) this weekend, I had a Granada Scorpio about 10 years ago, and due to my Ever failing Omega Elite finally seeming to give up the Ghost I needed to buy a car quick.

In the end I bought a Scorpio Ultima (V16) off Ebay (eck!) without actually seeing it, not the way to buy a car, but I think I go lucky and got away with it.  the car is on a N plate, 72.5K and seems generally sound and  drives will.  The only problem I've come across (and not fixed) is the multichanger CD in the boot doesn't work (but that was actually listed as a fault (and the EX owners CD are still stuck in there) so far due to working shift I've not had time to release these, but I think the unit is Kaput and needs changing anyway.

My question are more niggles that woes.  Firstly I had problems with the remote, and had to reprogram it to get it working (found numerous resolutions non of with worked until I found the one on this site!)  all worked as it should on the second go, and my remote is now working.  However when unlocking or even double locking the the doors I get no flash on the indicators to show the car has unlocked or been locked.  the only thing that give an indication is the cabin light comes on, great at night, but in daylight it's dificult to tell if the car has locked or not locked (the PAT light seems to act as it should, and when locked the light comes on, and start flashing after 5 seconds to show it armed)

My second niggle is to do with the trip,  I filled the car up when I bought it, and it nice to say it doesn't drink petrol like my Elite did, however that has a LPG conversion fitted to it.  my problem with this one is twice now the odometre? has reset back to zero.  not a lot of good if you want to know how far you have gone on a tank which was the original plan!  Am I doing something Dumb.  it seems to reset after about 12 hours,  I worked nights last night, parked the car up about 10pm came down in the morning at 8, and the trip (bottom of the milage window) was again showing Zero.  I don't think it an electric problem central locking opened the car fine, clock is right in the cabin and car kicks over with out even trying.

Any help you can give as to these issues would be very gratefully recieved.

Thanks Dave

hi and welcome

re the flashing alarm lights. this is a software setting. most cars have it, some don't. a FMD or someone with a FSD2000 diagnostic machine can change the setting.

re the resetting rip computer. are the dash needles flicking around when you turn on the ignition? if so, it's a sign of a failing battery.

Hi Thanks for the answers.

Not sure what a FMD is but I supose it some sort of Diags device, like I have for the Omega.  (only a cheap one, but good Enough)

Re the trip Computer I don't have anything like that happening, at all.  clock is keeping good time and I have no problems starting it, even cold this morning it started almost before I finished turning the key.   I presume battery problems would include a labouring start, turning over and I have non of that.  I can live with the problems, and just make a note of the mileage when filling. However it just an anoying Niggle I have with what seems almost a faultless buy, certainly considering it's nearly 14 years old, and all I've spent on is two new batteries for the remote!

Thanks again for the help, I would like if possable to get the lights to flash on lock/unlock just as a visual sign, any idea on how I check this or amend the problem!

Thanks in advance

I think your confusing the trip with the computer.  My computer works fine (or seems to do) it gives me a Range left total  (left hand window).  I'm talking about the trip counter (under the mileage reading) when I filled the tank to the top, I reset this to Zero (0.0) as I wanted to see how far I got out of one tank of fuel. after parking up one night the reading was about 70 miles next morning it was back to 0.0.  yesterday I did a bit of running about and drove to work (for a night shift) had about 30 miles on the trip showing.  Came out again to come home the trip had cleared again back to 0.0.  (no way the rest could have been pushed!)

Although I have changed the setting on the computer, surely this should not affect the trip counter?

Thanks for all your help guys.

No worries.  Just want to find why it keeps reseting. not that it's a major problem I'll just have to go back to the analogue version

Welcome. There is a known fault with the wiring to the CD player. Go to THis page and scroll down. Also,I understand, there is a small hole in the unit which allows you to insert a thin probe in to release the Cds. Smiley

Possibly the reset switch itself?

If you hold it in for 5 secs does it display the different settings and allow you to cycle through them?

Unusual one, not heard that happen before.

Thanks.

I should have added the Changer is a Kenwood unit (I believe) I've not really had time to look at the problems due to weather and work (I work shifts thank fully tonight is my last!)  I understand there is an adapter in between the unit and Ford wiring, so this could be an issue,  I don't think the unit even has power at the moment, so I'm thinking a long the lines of maybe a bad earth or fuse

only time will tell, thankfully my Stepson is a trained car mechanic, a whizz on stereo's and I'm a computer Engineer with good electrical knowledge so hopfully we can resolve it.  to be honest I like the car so much I'm considering putting a MP3/USB unit in it anyway!

So this is not a major issue, but it would be nice to get it sorted so it worth throwing a bit of time at it when free.

Thanks

mr_floppy.
It is not easy to get rid of the main mileage reading,if you put the panel into another Scorp the reading is still there ! There are of course"mileage correction"people who are versed in the black art  Sad

Yes!

Thats fine.  so far it has reset twice,  when I got in it this morning it was back to 0.0  I drove home and it had 15/16 miles on it. (I even cycled the computer to no affect) the trip remained at that mileage and did not reset.

I've come out to it tonight, still set, started the car (at first click again!) had the lights, heated screens on whilst cleaning the side windows off, driven to work tonight and it's still showing 31.0 miles. it will be interesting to see if it again resets to 0.0 overnight tonight.  so far it has reset at about 84 and 48 miles so tonight it should be reading aprox 165 miles it now only showing 31.

It's nothing major, and as I said next time I fill I'll just write the total down,  it hust one of those silly error I wondered if anyone else had noted/resolved

zero.
Does your trip button have a definite springiness when pressed ? I once had one that cancelled the trip mileage now and again because it seemed to float in and out ! I think there is a clever soft plastic bit that acts as a spring, and becomes disarranged !

hi there

i'm still pointing towards a voltage/battery issue.

try using this trick.... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm

see what voltage your battery is at with the engine off (over night?) and with engine running.

Thanks for that.

Quick update Now I'm alive again (I hate shifts, but love the time off, I get through doing them!)

This morning, came out to the car, doors frozen again (the seals, so I need some silcon spray from halfords shortly!)  and the trip was still registering mileage, drove home no problems still showing the acrued milage from the trip to and back to work.  Car started first time, blazed the heater up to temp and cleared the windows with the electrics (whilst clearing the sides) no problems at all.

I'm not using the car tonight, so we will see what happens tomorrow?

Thanks for everybodies input and thoughts.
