Colour coded relays

Hi Blower motor yellow relay, I went to fords today to get a price for the blower motor relay, £57 could not beleive it. I asked if like fuses relays were colour coded and thus interchangeable as the yellow relays in the central fuse box only cost me £8 earlier this year. The ford advisor said that unfortunately unlike fuses they cannot be interchanged as they maybe the same colour but the way that they are internally wired and set to work with differing resistances they have to be changed for the identical part code. Thought this post may help members for future reference. Regards Chris

hopper. Several of the relays CAN be interchanged because they are the same with the same number.Usually the pins are differently positioned to obviate the wrong use anyway. They are not difficult to test, and currently there is a good supply in breakers yards.Could the Ford dealer be confusing your request with the big green cooling fan relay under the bonnet ? GOZZ.

Hi Gozz and Johnny Cab, I also am beginning to think that the Ford advisor is confused it seems very difficult to get expert advise nowadays on the 24v Cosworth the mechanics are not used to working on the cars and no longer carry the correct equipment my Ford dealer no longer has the facility to plug into the cars diagnostics for quicker fault finding. This website with its extremely helpful and knowledgeable members is invaluable. I think his computor system has quoted for the blower rather than the relay. Once i have found which of the 3 yellow relays behind the glove box is R28 rather than R36 or R38 i will have the correct part number for Fords to check again. Regards Chris
