I have dealt with Jack before, and think he is fair, if he is selling it it will certainly be usable, I have not heard of one failing before but I am sure others will correct me.
Why does yours need changing ??

Thanks Bizzay
I think I need a new one. I think there is not enought spring to hold proper tension. Looking on this site it appears they do not fail but the springs do lose tension.
The fan belt broke about a week ago. For a week or so before the belt failed, I was getting shake through the steering. Then after I put a new belt on the steering was almost correct. Just the occassional very small play. I cant see any play in any of the joints. The belt did not seem to have as much tension that I could remember from removing it before. Also I detect a little noise from the bearing, so though it best to change it. Thanks for your help. Tim

The tensioners'  do tend to " lock" if they are now moved much but are quite free when you fit a new belt ... as long as the belt is NOT slipping when the engine is running with everything ON ( heated windscreen, A/C, etc) then there is enough tension on the belt and a new tensioner would NOT be required. In my experience either the spring breaks or the bearing seizes otherwise not a lot of problems. Other with more experience of the problem may give better advice with more detail .

Tim.
Just a thought, could your aircon compressor be seizing up thus causing loss of the belt ?
