A leaking fuel tank...

when I fill with fuel I get a leak around the driver side rear wheel/tyre... I can see the drips of petrol from the rear bumper/wheel arch... if I'm down to just over half full it's fine....
What's the best thing to do?
Repair or replace?
Entrust to a garage or find a welder?
Any recommendations in North London?
Questions, questions...

Change your tank,they rust around the filler pipe area at the top.There are various 'unctions' that can be applied and these will give an indeterminate period of joy,but to apply them the tank really should be removed,and having gone thus far,replacement is the safest bet.Ebay, about £90 was the going rate for a pattern part,two of which I have had.

Had my tank changed for the same symptoms you have. Can’t weld a tank up to dodgy!!. Gozz is spot with labour etc. I purchased new `straps` that hold the tank on. Possibly not 100% necessary but saves a few quid on labour, as they don't have to muck about freeing seized nuts and bolts etc.
Got the tank from “the_trickythingyy” chap on ebay. Hope this helps.
PS My Scorp is still dead at the minute…fails to start…turns over a treat. Waiting Ford Specialist to return from a skiing trip to look at it for me!

Got mine replaced a few months ago, and if there hadn't been a problem with the fuel pump in the second- hand tank the chap would have done it in less than an hour.
Access is great, two straps off, disconnect a couple of pipes, refit everything, bish, bash, bosh, job done !

An hour can be spent pumping the fuel out,or at least low enough to reduce the tank to a manageable weight,and to remove the plastic liner from the inside of the mudguard,preferably without damage or breakage.
The new tank needs to have been previously coated to prevent further corrosion,the pump changed over and the rubber buffers glued on in the correct positions.Assuming that the three pipes are in good order they can be reused with
new clips(2),the straps are always corroded and if the nuts can be undone,should be derusted and coated,or new ones obtained.If I could find a used tank worth the trouble of fitting i feel sure that bish'bash,bosh I could change it in an hour or two.However,any work carried out on my vehicles which are used for private hire in the funeral trade MUST be done properly and carefully,hence four hours.

I'm about to put a new tank on - I understand the fuel pump is internal to the tank? Any tips on swapping it over?

You can kneel on the tank and use two large screwdrivers crossed to remove the pump retainer.

Aha - I missed the fuel pump instructions - only saw the fuel tank one
I didn't realise the fuel pump and sender were a combine unit - makes sense now
