Hi Jim. The Scorp you describe is a 2.9 v6 12 valve which has not got a MAF. So that is not the answer. On my "best" 12 valve (I have 2) I get around 20mpg around Town and on a long Motorway journey I get around 31mpg, depending on how hard I drive. When I got my 12 valves the first thing I did service them and check that all pipes and electrical plugs were attached properly and that the vacume pipes were not split. This improved things considerably. I am no expert but I do hope that this helps Mike N

Just one thing Jim. When I got my first 12valve (4 years ago) I knew nothing and I mean Nothing about them. Without this site and all the help and advice I have recieved my cars would have gone to the Scrappy a long time ago. So keep asking Jim . There are many good folk here who are only too happy to give excellent advice based on personal experience. Mike N

Jim. The two usual causes of 12v richness are Lambda sensors,2,in the exhaust front pipes, and the manifold actual pressure sensor or vacuum blockage thereto,on the nearside suspension turret.Check all vacuum lines for leakage as well. GOZZ.

Im with Gozz on this one. Lambda sensors can give you horrid economy if faulty. FYI my last 12v gave around 21 around town & approx 38 at a steady 60mph, that was on a 70,000 mile engine which was running spot on.

Ok another question How much notice should i take of the MPG readings on the on board computer in the dash? I can't maintain 32.4 MPG at a steady 40 MPH on the flat, a slight increase it then fluctuates between 25MPh and 28. Is this really what i'm getting or is it just there to keep my mind occupied on long trips. And another what is the best way to figure out what MPG in getting . Ok just one more to give you something to chew on..... My 2.9i is an auto and i'm new to towing caravans. On hills should i just leave it in D or should i select 2nd /3rd to maintain power. See what happens when my brain starts to think. Tonks

| The most reliable way is to fill the car, zero the trip, then when you re-fill divide the mileage covered by the gallons used. As your petrol receipt will show in Litres just divide that figure by 4.54 to give you gallons.

Tonker. Leave it in drive the gearbox is 'automatic',make sure your car has the auxiliary air to oil cooler, the one in the radiator tends not to be sufficient, and the oil could boil leading to oil loss and transmission failure.Simmos method of checking MPG is indeed the best,I do it every time my cars are filled so that I can see who's been thrashing em !
