Wheel arch liners

The Y reg hasn't got any wheel arch liners (along with a whole load of other issues - that'll teach me to buy a car I've never seen in the flesh). What are peoples opinions on replacing them? Do they do a good job of preventing corrosion or do they let water and mud collect behind the arches and actually promote rust?

'Wheel arch liners' you mean those crappy chrome'ish things people install around the wheel arch? is yes, then mate don't do it! it doesn't prevent from anything and makes corrosion even worse as like you said it collects mud, water and all kind of crap.

Hi all I have heard about some drivers removing liners and lip edges so they can fit big rims & tires without fear of the tires rubbing with the suspension lowerd as they go over bumps.

amigafan. I think you need the liners to prevent mud build up under the wings.By return lip,do you mean the original curled up bit on the rear arch ? if so, that doesn't hold the liner in,they are held in by screws and plastic press fittings. After a rear wheel arch repair, the curly bit is dispensed with anyway, because non standard arches are normally used.I think there is a set lying around here should you need em. Ah - the arches still have the "tabs" that the liners screw to so that's good. I could take the arch liners off my other Scorp but I don't think that's fair on Pinto who is buying it so I wont do that. So if anyone has a pair of rear arch liners going then I'd be happy to take them off your hands for a small fee Anyone near Blackpool? I'll try and get a photo of the arches.
