Progress of the Y reg

Well, a week of ownership and I'm broken!  But in a good way.

On Monday I gave the car a good going over and found a few probs:-

1:  No rear wheel arch liners.  I now have fitted replacements.
2:  Oil leak from the sump plug.  New sump plug and washer fitted.
3:  PS fluid leak.  New jubilee clip on the bottom of the PS res outlet.
4:  Interior lights not working.  Traced to a dead power saver relay, now replaced.
5:  Couple of dash/clock bulbs out.  Now replaced.
6:  ABS/TCS light would come on intermittently.  Traced to a corroded rear abs sensor connector.  Now cleaned and working ok now.
7:  Tyres were barely legal.  new Pirelli P6000's fitted all round.

Now all the little niggles were sorted I turned my attention to getting the car spruced up.

1st stop was to have Motorsport Developments remap it with one of thier plug in chips.  They reckon it's good for 15bhp and 15ft/lb extra but overall the drivability improves.  Being an automatic it's hard to prove it on a rolling road but I can confirm it feels smoother all the way through the rev range.  Throttle response is noticably crisper too.

Then fitted a metal Cosworth badge and dark side repeaters.

Fitted 6x8 JBL speakers in the rear and a Kenwood KCH200 media extender in the glove box (lets you play MPS of a USB stick, control iPods etc).

Next the engine bay - cleaned with Autoglym Vinyl and plastic restorer/protection.  Still alot to do yet - just breaking it down into small chunks atm:-

Then the interior - cleaned with ArmourAll leather cleaner then treated with Autoglym leather feed:-

Then the hard work.  Washed the car with Meguirs Gold Class shamppo on Wednesday then clayed it with PoorBoys medium clay bar.  I cleaned it again after this then went over the whole car with Autoglym Super Resain polish by hand (really need to buy and orbital buffer).  then cleaned it again and sealed the paint with Autoglym Super Gloss protection.  then today I cleaned it again and finally applied Meguirs Tech Wax NXT 2.0.  Very pleased with the quality of the paint and no real swirl marks to note.  I'll let the pictures do the talking:-

I have the car booked into a body shop in a few weeks to get these defects sorted out and then I reckon it'll be pretty much spot on and show worthy Smiley

Well, thanks for looking and I'll keep you posted on any updates Smiley

It's a shame the forums are limited to 640x480 pic sizes - the quality of the paintowrk really shows in higher res pics.

let me know how much will fixing those bits in the bodyshop cost. I need to fix exactly the same bits, although i've got a crack in the rear bumper Wink thought i'll sort it out with a full respray but following a specialist's advice i'll respray what needs respraying and do a professional deep polish on the rest of the paintwork...

Yes it is Big Neils old car. I'm sure he'll be delighted to see it in its present form. Well done. It looks really smart as indeed it always did. I'd better send Neil a box of tissues!. Grin
