Bearing grease

Probably a silly question, but I need to fix a rear bearing, and I'm just wondering if the Scorp requires some special grade of grease I need to get from FMD, or if generic will do fine?

High Melting Point grease is required to spec SAM-1C-9111-A  but I used just a general purpose one when I did mine .

I think the importance of the correct grease (& the correct amount) is often overlooked – especially given the problems with the Scorpio bearing. I bought the correct grease when I bought the bearing from fordpartsuk a year ago.
The bearing kit didn’t include grease, I was hoping for a sachet so the correct amount went in, but it came in a tube for a cartridge gun.

Scorpio(+)"GB", DOHC 2.3 (145PS), 4 Door Saloon, RHD
-High Temperature Grease ESDM-1C220-A, 90 G
Part Number:   5021439
Retail Price:     £3.93

plus VAT & postage

Given the price of the bearing and the hassle of changing it a few quid for the right stuff seemed sensible to me.

No question about it at that price, local factors here charge that much for a generic grease. FMD in Turku charges 165 euros for a bearing kit for one rear wheel, where a German aftermarket one is around 35 euros at the local factor. But as you say Tompion, if I anyway need to buy it, might as well buy the correct one. Can't be more than a tenner around here, and that is peanuts compared to how long it should last.

Edit: Got myself some CRC High Temp Lithium grease, promises continuos 150 degrees and temporarily 200 degrees of heat.

Bearing fixed. Was sure a pain to remove the bolts for the caliper from the bearing housing (took 2 hours). The hub was in excellent condition, lucky to fix it in time. Somewhat hard was to remove the hub from the bearings, far from the description in the guide. It went out, but the inner rings caught on the hub, and they were tight. The bearings went in well with a 50mm key, it was a shame we didn't have two. All in all, around 5 active hours, we had a swearing session in each workstep. But it can be done by a newbie.

NOTE: The kit I got listed a separate LHS and RHS and can't see why, both the inner and outear bearing + oilseal was identical. It was not the wrong part, as it fit perfectly. Now the car handles much better on worn road surfaces. A huge difference.

NOTE2: Many factors list 24V using wear indicators rear. This was not true for my car, otherwise the pads were identical.

tlundkvi.
The kit is the same as the Granada 3,but they used opposed threads on the hub nuts, hence left and right. Some kits had two nuts in to cover both sides, but the Granada nuts were bigger O/D than the Scorpio anyway.

That explains it, good to know. We started thinking that this was yet another "we list two items to confuse people". As we fixed the RHS, it was of course a "normal" thread in the hub nut.

Just make sure that you check the hub nut again after a few miles and make sure it is still at the correct torque. You may have done it up to the correct torque,as did I, BUT it was slightly loose and it is not unknown so beware. Huh
