Rear Brakes

Hello there fellow Scorpio people.   I have posted on here before asking for advice re tyres, of course when removing the wheels to change the tyres, (did that myself, and balanced the wheels) I had a good wee look at the rear brakes.   I can see that sometime in the not too distant future I will need to replace the discs and pads, having already done a complete front change.   I was interested to see on this site a nice wee Sykes tool that winds back the piston whilst putting pressure on it.   I went to the sykes catalogue, and they do two of these tools, one for RH winding, and one for LH winding, does anyone know which I will need?   Or, is there a better tool that does the job?   If so where should I purchase it from?   Or, is there someone on here selling one?

I'm also in the process of putting a nice wee switch in so I can manually activate the twin cooling fans.  I have always had this facility on my older cars, and was interested to note that the Scorpio defaults to closed circuit to keep the fans off!   The reverse of normal for a sender switch.

I think I'm fairly alone in Scorpio ownership way up here by Inverness, I have seen one other car, it's green and has suffix letters SOV, mine is MOV, so they came from the same place!

Happy motoring.

Peter.

hi there

i've got a feeling it's r/h for the tool (would need to go and check mine). l/h is for the 2000> mondeo.

rear brakes

re the fans. imho, i'd leave well alone! and you don't need add a switch to make them run, just switch on the air con. this will make the fans run at slow speed. they will only go to high speed if the engine needs it (or if a problem with the air con pressure).

Hi Peter,

can I ask the reason for wanting to manually activate the fans?

Peter, Have a look at THIS as it is probably a lot cheaper and works well. Note it's 3/8 drive. Wink

Thanks for the replies, I'll probably go for that tool Simmo suggests.

Highlander.   My old Mum is Spanish and lives South Spain, my brother is retired and lives Mid France.   I intend to take the Scorpio to both places during my summer holidays, (I get long holidays becuase I'm a lecturer in a Uni)   I want to be able to control the fans manually, in these very much hotter places.   I had a Senator before, and found it didn't like slowing down for town driving after long blasts on Autoroutes.   I also have an Alvis TA21, and the twin Kenlowe fans on it are operated manually.   It's just a precaution really.

Unless theres a problem in the system somewhere your Scorpio will be able to control the hot temperatures just fine.

And manually overriding the fans will affect the cars running.

As stated above I would be inclined not to tamper with it, playing with Scorpio electrics isnt recommended Smiley

OK Highlander.   Point noted, I shall leave well alone and hope the Scorpio can take town driving in 40 c plus heat.   Smiley

I had a conversation with a mailing list member from Nigeria about this very subject and he had no problems at all (well not with the engine temp) he had plenty others Smiley
