Rear Shock Absorbers Estate

I have oil leaking from a rear shock absorber is it an easy job? Its the estate version.
It looks like a normal shocker so doesnt seem to have self leveling etc However I am told there are oil filled and gas types is this true?

I believe all estates had selflevelling, check the supension manual on the site. If there was a make of regular shockers for the estate I'm sure many are interested in knowing what brand and type number it has. New estate shockers are very expensive (you can easily fit regular shockers on the saloon if air shockers are installed).

How do these self levelling ones work? looking at the manual I have a linkage to the anti roll bar, Yes. Then if they are self levelling it seems there is a pipe which runs from this shocker to the other side. I have no pipe there does not appear to be a connection between them concluson ordinary ones or is this wishful thinking, These apear to be factory fit dont beleive they have ever been changed car is 1998 "S" reg 2.5TD Estate

The self levelling shocks on Scorp the estate don't have any pipes coming off them as they aren't manually adjustable like the old Granada ones which used a compressor

In which height does that adjust rear after installing -35mm or -40mm lowering springs ? To same level as with stock springs or to lower? Sorry if stupid question 
I have seen lowering set to scorpio estate at ebay...

The ones you have are standard self levelling oil filled shocks.
The metal pin shouldnt come out, that bush is bushed
Replacement bushes arent available either!
You need to lower the rear arm to get the shocks/springs out.
Best advice is to look for some second hand ones, there are no cheap alternatives.
Many a good estate has gone to the scrapyard because their owner couldnt justify £500 for two rear shocks, sad but true

I found this article about Nivomat. Interesting reading. Page 4 explains why some aftermarket coil springs appear to be very low quality. The problem is those springs are sold as "also self-levelling" instead of "only self-levelling".

I'm a cheapskate motorist, I would (and do) replace one unit with a second hand unit.
The purists out there would fit a pair of new ones but if it works and passes the MOT then what more do you need.
The cost of a pair of new ones fitted would probably exceed the value of your Scorpio

I wasn't aware that the Mondeo estate ever had self levellers fitted......unless it is referring to the brand new Mondeo.....but it can't be, because the date at the top of the page says '11 Oct 2000'

Just checking... but are there still no alternatives to getting a new/used, highly expensive, special absorber to the estate? No other car brand damper one could cram in there or perhaps somehow repair the old one?? Any tipp?
