Hi I recently asked for a replacement anti rattle spring of which Highlander gratefully supplied but it was immediately apparant this was not the spring that I am after I obviously gave wrong description, the spring I am after fits on the outside of the caliper, what its purpose is I do not fully understand but any way mine is missing I went along to my local Ford Parts Department and on there blow up it is not shown, there is one shown for the front but is of a different shape so I am left just a little puzzled and of course if its a safety requirement then I obviously need to replace soonest, can you help me out with this one a Ford Part Number would be handy unless some one has a spare to offer, the car is 2.3 with standard solid discs O/S Rear. Many Thanks Kenboy

Hi Ken, must be the language barrier I sent you part 25 on this diagram, can you see what you're after on here? Maybe part 20 the spring for the handbrake mechanism? http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/rearcalipers.gif

| Can you post a picture of your setup, maybe someone can spot exactly what is missing?

Hi very strange Stuart, this is the same blow up I have previousley mentioned once again the spring is not shown but there are definately two one each side I will try and get a photo through the one on the n/s is still there and there are two at the front serving the same purpose? but are of different shape, have you not got these on yours I would have thought they were a standard fitment, like I mentioned before even Fords do not know its purpose. but if it is a safety requirement then I have to source one as a matter of urgency, scrap yards are few and far between were I live, hence my perseverance. with the forum Cheers Kenboy

The only other springs I can think of are pre fitted to the pads. They're not shown in the diagram, but attached to the rivet on the top edge of the pads.

The ones looking like seagull wings then. The front ones doesn't have them. The only way to fix that is to install new pads. Rears are very easy to do.

I think i know what you mean Ken, arent they just on the front calipers? like a long looped bit of fencing wire? I thought there was only one per caliper though.. Isnt it funny you can take them apart and reassemble them with your eyes shut but cant think what they look like! lol

Is this the part you after Kenboy (pic No 3) http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/brake/FCaliper.pdf I wouldn't remove it like it describes in the picture though, as it's liable to just shoot off somewhere....into your eye possibly ....hold it with your other hand while you pry one end out with the screwdriver

Around here those are sold as brake pad mounting kits (also the rear plate Highlander had sent), recommended to be replaced the same time as the pads. Any local factor should carry them in stock. Cost is a few euros a pair. Kenboy, yours might have been reused too many times, hence tension was lost and it flew away.
