Facelift Headlamps - Easy How To

There is a guide here on how to tint the early headlamps to make facelift ones, but I've found an easier option:

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/headglass.htm

The chrome that you normally sand off and paint over is only very thin and polishes off the insert in the headlamp glass very easily. Underneath the chrome is smooth shiny black plastic.

The only awkward bit is getting into the edges where the glass is close to the chrome insert, but it just needs a cloth pushing into the space and rubbing up and down a couple of times.

Once it's done you have a facelift looking headlamp and you haven't risked breaking the glass or have to worry about it not sealing up properly as you've not had to remove it.

I used T cut for metallic paint but I'm sure any kind of cutting polish would do it.

If you look closely on a certain online auction site at 'facelift' headlamps you might think someone else has discovered this method already as there appears to be some on there with a small amount of chrome still showing at the edges..

The facelift lenses aren't actually tinted, it's just the black inner that makes it look that way  Smiley..... Although as far as I know (never compared them though), the facelift lens is slightly less convex  Undecided

Hi, I was sent  link about facelift headlights, that I am after.  You said you took the chrome off the plastic reflector, did you also take the chrome off the reflector where the headlight and side light bulbs fit, or did you leave that on?

Pretty sure he meant on the outer part directly attached to the glass. If you remove the chrome on the actual reflector inside the headlight, the headlight will not work properly anymore.

You only remove the chrome from the outer part, not the bit by the bulbs.

It then looks the same as the face lift lamp so will still pass an MOT.
