greetings gang, sad to find that the tin worm has made his bed in the car. I am not a welding person so task will have to be farmed out. I have never been happy with the patchwork quilt scenario though. does anybody have any experience of a complete sill replacement job?  my local Ford dealer has both complete sides which come in one piece and appear to include the lower section of the central door pillar. I have checked a local panel stockist who has the far east substitutes which come in a three piece form, outer, inner, and top.
any advice gratefully received

Hi I recently had my sills replaced do not bother with foriegn parts the sills from the mark 3 Granada fit perfectly and are only about £14 each and are easily sourced, on mine only the outers needed doing but a decision on inners will have to be made once outers have been removed but even so they to are the same price and easily obtainable now for the hard bit (The Cost) this is what I had done n/s o/s Sill replacement rear wheel arches repaired respray of sills wheel arches and both rear quarter panels £400.00 My advice is to shop around as I had one quote of well over a £1000 and some other silly ones I think the price I paid is a fair one and relects the cost of parts and labour, hope this helps.

Kenboy you got an absolute bargain there !, considering the modern paint and labour prices I wonder how your man made a decent profit .

Hi Gozz You can bet your life they made a fair profit, its only because most body shop repairs are covered by insurance and of course they charge highly inflated rates which are covered by our excessive insurance premiums so when the likes of you and I make enquiries we are quoted silly prices which eventualy becomes the norm and we except it but when you break it down, as in my case the sills were probably sourced for about £9 each the paint no more than £70 and labour was three hours at £55 per hour and to be precise my bill was £420 that means a profit of about £170.00 for three hours parts and labour but I must add it took a lot of shopping around before I found someone with an honest attitude towards charging for private work, as I mentioned before I was provided I some extremely dishonest and disgraceful quotes, in one instance over £1800 was given my advice is the small experienced perhaps one man set ups are better than the large firms, "christ" I am beginning to ramble on here.

thanks for info.chaps. to Kenboy, when you mention the Mark 3 Granada sills, are they sourced from Ford (genuine Ford part ) or the local car accessory shop, pattern type ?
I like to fix things myself so its always a bit of a b****r when you have put yourself at the hands of others. bit like TV repair men who  "fix " your telly at great expense telling you they have  replaced this and replaced that yet only giving it a great whack on the side !

Hi some two years ago advisory on MOT was that both sills were showing signs of rust damage although the damage was not to advanced I knew that if I wanted to keep the car then remedial action had to be taken eventualy, The following year same advisory but car passed mot the guy said I may not be so lucky the next time but in the meantime I made lots of inquiries and was given some extortionate quotes I decided that rather than have the work done I would run the car until it became necessary to scrap it but in the meantime I carried on searching and was fortunate enough to meet a guy who runs his own business I did not go cap in hand I simply explained to him the situation I knew that in my rersearch mk3 sills were easily sourced and that he would be paying about £9 each he told me the work would take between 2 to 3 hrs and that his rates were £55 per hour, of course I was suspiscious of finished quality so I made further enquiries and discovered that this man who had run his business for some 30 years or more had a brilliant reputation I decided to bite the bullet and go for it, as for the finished product I was very impressed especially the sills, remember the archers were not replaced simply tidied up but a job well done I think what helped a lot is that I told him that there was no panic, time wise. as he was extremely busy he had the car on his premises about a week I assume it was an in between job, but I was not concerned and that is the story except to add I took the car to Harewood and was complimented on the condition of the car in particular the sills, Remember this took over two years to sort out
Maybe I got lucky, maybe the guy was impressed with my attitude and the general condition of the car, who knows? finally would the sills pass close scrutiny quality wise, of course they would, come on have a look.

Hi Jeff, the job took a week and involved the replacement of both sills the two rear wheel arches and at the same time I had a split in the  front bumper repaired and it, and the rear one, sprayed.
