Is it me or does the Scorp (24V in my case) run much better with Super unleaded (or similar)? I'm sure mine does or could it be psychological coz I've spent more money and want it to go better?  Undecided

Waglet.
I suppose a higher octane rating may produce a slightly bigger bang therefore a little more power ?

hi there

i never saw any gain with my scorpio, but it was on/set up for LPG (smaller plug gap).

however, with the wife's Honda civic 1.5 vtec engine, you can get a good 5 mpg difference. it is a very revvy engine, though.

eec-v has ability to adjust ignition advance for different octane..
I just filled tank with 98 but I don't notice any CLEAR difference to 95. I don't say that it doesn't affect to power, but if it affects, gain must be very very small.
I'm also trying to test if it has any affect to fuel comsumption. (need to fill few times before I can make any statements about consumption graphs)

made no difference to mine - even on measured long motorway trips.

Made a lot of comparisons with measured distances - I might post 1 day but suffice to say I'm sticking with 95 octane

1. Emptied fuel tank full of 95 octane -> 9,32 litres per 100km
~~~ winter tires ~~~
2. Emptied fuel tank full of 98 octane -> 9,62 litres per 100km
3. Emptied fuel tank full of 95 octane -> 10,06 litres per 100km
4. Emptied fuel tank full of 98 octane -> 9,7 litres per 100km
Difficult to say if octane affects fuel consumption because that already has some variation because of driving router, weather, tyre change, traffic amount etc.
Few more refuels needed, definitely
I have tried this a few times, filling up with 98 Octane. It does appear to improve throttle response.
It depends how "hard" you wish to drive. Overall little difference, (apart from financial loss), is seen at all.
However, if you avoid the blended fuel (Tesco, Asda, etc....) and use 95 Octane (Esso etc..) refined fuel.
Response levels are better and price per litre are similar.  Wink
From tests conducted in the past on higher octane fuel you should see a better mpg. The problem is the cost of the fuel out weighs the mpg improvement, so you are better sticking with the regular 95 octane fuel.
Here in Finland 98 octane is only 0,02€ or 0,03€ more per litre..
Full tank of 95E = 87,05€
Full tank of 98E = 88,985€
so price doesnt count much...
