tried wd40 made no difference .just looks like its got a bit of white corrosion around the button thats what made me think it could be stuck. I might take it off and give it a good soaking in wd.

Maybe the motor is stuck? You could try to remove it and see if the button starts moving.

I was convinced my 1995 Ultima saloon only had a keyhole on the bootlid, but after taking the whole thing apart and soaking it in oil it eventually turned out to be a push button that opens the boot. It took a good while to free it up and lots of careful but heavy pushing to get it to move. There is a lot of outward movement once it is free and I found it was easier to push it outwards first to get it moving. It's been fine for the last few years now and I guess if you use the remote control all the time they eventually seize up.

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but just a quick related question! Is the saloon & estate boot lock the same? If not, is the estate one used on any other Fords? Cheers Jim

Granny mk3 is almost same? Isn't whole estate tailgate same or something? When my Granada Scorpio sedan broke it's bootlock, I replaced the key part with simple plastic button + relay and some wiring from electric store. Wired it so that boot only opens when 1. doors are open 2. engine/ignition is not running. Wiring was easy because every needed wire came near to bootlock. Little soldering + relay = voila. 1 because to prevent thiefs opening boot when car is parked 2 because in rainy/winter conditions the button can short circuit while driving Everyone though that button thingy is cars original system
