Bump Stops

Hi Guys, This seems like a stupid question but recently I noticed that the bump stops on my '95 2.0 ultima are breaking up. Could someone tell me what length they are supposed to be? I only ask as I purchased some  on ebay and they are shorter than the originals. I was refunded the purchase cost and allowed to keep them as they were not meant for my carHuh Can the slightly shorter ones ( maybe an inch shorter)be put on?  Lee

They are fitted inside the rear springs and stops them from compressing  too much thus reducing how much the suspension lowers when weight is in the car.

Too short ones are not making things better for the shock absorbers, if the car hits bottom too often and one inch longer movement, it may wear them down prematurely. They can't cost much at FMD, here in Finland I was told less than 40€/pair, did you check what the originals cost in UK? Finis is 7264097 and Tech 95GB-5K570-AB.

I would worry too much about it Lee...my bump stops are a bit ragged at the ends, but I've never had a problem with the car 'bottoming out' & never failed an MOT because of them  Smiley

The only time I've ever had a car 'bottom out' on me was about 20 years ago when I borrowed my Mums MG Metro Turbo to go to band rehearsal (my Cortina estate had died) which had hydrolastic suspension.
I loaded all my guitar gear in the back (seats down) & half way there the rear suspension just collapsed (hydragas pipe burst), meaning that even on the slightest dip in the road, the rear end would just thump down on the stops with a sickening thud  Huh

The worst bit though, was when my Mum went ape because she thought I'd broken her precious little car by overloading it  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the info guys. Seems like I am going to fit the free ones with no adverse effect expected.
