Hi, My wife's 2.3 Ultima has headlamp washer and I was wondering how easy it would be to add headlamp washers to my 2.9 24v Ultima? Are they much good? Cheers, Mondeoman

Personally I don't see much point in them. They work only when the mud is wet and the dirt can easily be rinsed off. When it's dry you just wipe the headlights with a paper towel. I have had mine disconnected from the beginning in my scorp and feel no urge in connecting them back until a MOT guy tells me so.

Is their also some connection to the headlamp switch as the washers only work when the headlamps are on? Another problem is Ford have very few headlamp washer units left. I'm desperately looking for a headlamp washer for the passenger side of an early facelift car.

If one wants to make an aftermarket fit, there are much easier solutions than putting the original jets. You can put "generic" jets there with a generic pump (or from another car's jets), and connect the power from the main washer pump. I'm quite sure you can get a relay+circuit that sprays every 3-5 times windshield jets are pushed like in e.g. BMW.

I would of thought the easiest way to do this is to obtain the whole front bumper, ( c/w washers of course), fluid tank & relevant relays from a facelift model. Probably not the cheapest option though. Would be a consideration if your front bumper has seen better days though

Obtaining a good one from a facelift I think can be a problem, especially in the right colour as some like to facelift their cars. You don't necessarily need a 11 liter tank for driving headlight washers, and the generic parts jets on a mount, some hose, some Y-pieces and a generic jet pump can be obtained from any of those supplies-stores.

Very true Tlundkvi. Facelift parts are hard to find in good condition, especially in the correct colour. I've found most bumpers are available as part of a kit ( inc grill, headlights & rear lights ) so as people can do a facelift conversion. Well worth doing though ( in my opinion )

I think adding headlamp washers to my Cossie is a job for next year when the weather. is better, but it's on my to do list. I've got the reverse parking sensors, just missing 12 spoke alloy wheels, headlamp washer and internal alarm sensors from the car, plus headlamp washer! Not sure sensors would be easy to add to car.

| Well especially if there's cracks and scratches in the old one. I would trade my bumper internals for a flawless ash black bumber without jets right away. Only problem is shipping

My Bumper is in very good condition like the rest of the car's bodywork. I'm just the sort of guy that gets sucked into wanting all the extras I've watched my wife's headlamp washers work a few times and they don't seem to be squirting any water on the lens etc. They do pop up so some pressure is present from the water pump, but nothing. I may change my mind on those things yet!
