Instrument Cluster bulbs

I tried with search, but couldn't find the answer that I was looking for. So I'm starting a new thread. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fasciabulbs.htm Instructions state that there are two kind of bulbs, smaller and bigger. But what do those illuminate? Are those all used to illuminage dials? My problem is that the left hand side of dials (temp and revs partially) is weakly illuminated. So, one ore more bulbs would need replacement. But which ones to buy? Smaller or bigger? If both are used to illuminate dials then no one can of course know it before taking it apart. But how is it - are both sizes used to illuminate dials? Thanks

There are four bulbs illuminating the dash, you will have one or two blown on the left. They are the same as side lamp bulbs but with a lower wattage to prevent overheating, they may be 2watt,sidelamps are 5watt. GOZZ.

Thanks! I'd then need the larger ones, the ones which I already have bought. Lucky me

Here we go again, I just started to think what those smaller bulbs are there for if not illumination? I assume that those are not warning lights either. So do I after all have to prepare to change both, small and bigger ones?

Small bulbs are for some of indicators, like Cruise Control. Safety warning lights don't have removable bulbs. (To prevent removing before MOT as in some countries ABS or Airbag light illuminates = instant FAIL at MOT) click: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=di splay;num=1253360762;start=4#4 You need to change bigger bulbs. Be careful not to fit too much wattage there. 3W is correct. on Nov 16th, 2009, 8:34am, gozz wrote:There are four bulbs illuminating the dash, you will have one or two blown on the left.. |
| They don't need to be blown to be too dark. Those bulbs tend to dim (glass goes black during years). My instrument cluster was very dim, didn't see numbers when driving at night. Changed those not blown bulbs to new ones -> made a VERY big difference

It's not a failure in the UK, just an advisory.
