All 7000s are not the same

Been having trouble with the display on my 7000 (again) recently....coming & going....the usual thing  Roll Eyes
I really couldn't be bothered to take it all apart & stick it in the freezer again, so went & got another one off Ebay.

This one is a couple of years older than the one in my facelift (came from an N reg), but seems to work fine.

There are 3 things that I've noticed that are different though:-

The new one (although it's older) seems to have more clarity than my old old one, in that when playing CDs, I notice the bottom end sounds alot tighter & punchier (sounded loose & muddy before) & the top end sounds alot brighter & crisper....it just sounds alot more dynamic...I really like it  Cheesy

Unfortunately, there are 2 things that I'm not too impressed with though :-

1) When playing a CD you can't go fast forward or fast rewind through a CD track by using the remote stalk (used to pull or push it & hold it ). You have to press menu on the radio so it says 'search', then press & hold the seek button (back or forward)  Roll Eyes

2) When listening to a CD track with the engine off & then starting the engine, (get the normal 2 seconds of silence) the track will go back to the beginning. Same if you turn the ignition off & then back on  Huh.... It used to just carry on from where it left off.

The new 7000 came with a changer as well, which was handy as mine had started skipping badly recently.
I did all the above with the old changer & then with the new changer (works perfectly with no skipping), & all is the same.

P.S.... I shouldn't moan really, as I won the 7000 with changer for a mere £18....so I suppose I got a bargain & shouldn't complain  Wink

Tons....I've fiddled with it every which way possible & the two deffinately function differently  Wink

Something else.........the 7000 in the wifes '97  P reg Ultima resumes playing a CD track after being switched off (doesn't return to start of track) but you can't fast forward/reverse using the remote stalk, you have to use the menu/search on the radio  Roll Eyes

This means there are now 3 different versions of the 7000, each having slightly different ways of functioning  Huh.....Think I need to go & have a lie down now

Very strange . Was wondering if it has something to do with the units coming from different cars  i.e. Mondeos. Father in law has a 7000 in his mondeo but no remote stalk. Just a thought  Undecided

It's a possibility I suppose as I don't know what car the new 7000 came from (reg code in radio cannot be found on DVLA site), but that doesn't explain the difference in remote stalk function between my facelift & the wifes pre-facelift.

I wonder if it's a facelift thing ?....the fact that you can FFWD/FRWD through a track using the remote stalk  Undecided

Hi All, I didnt realise that the 7000 unit came with built in CD player.  The unit I just replaced recently only had the cassette player.   For that reason I went for a 6000 unit which does have the CD player.  I suspect it is the later unit used in the Mondeo.  The display is definitely superior to the one on the 7000 (even when it worked)   There was a slight difference in the connections at the rear of the 6000, where the centre one of the three main sockets was larger, with six extra pins that are not covered by the existing plug on my loom.  I can only assume that Fords put a different plug on the Mondeo connection, as I am not missing any of the facilities that were present on my original 7000 unit.  Luckily  the existing plug is interchangable on both units.
When I searched on EBay for a replacement unit, I put silly bids on several units. on which I was outbid on all of them except one 7000 unit.  By that time I had already got a 6000 unit on "buy it now"   So now I have a fully working 7000 unit surplus to requirements. Bummer!
Cheers Fred

Did I give the impression that the 7000 came with a CD player in-built ?.....sorry, if it was a little confusing.

The 7000 only has a tape player in-built....the CDs are played from the 6 disc changer  Wink
