Bad DPFE sensor

A while ago I got both P1405&P1406 suggesting the two hoses to the sensor had problems, and both were replaced.
The codes were reset and were away for almost two months. Now the P1405 has returned, the hose is still tight and as good as new. Can the sensor be cleaned just like the MAF or should I try to find a new or a proven good one? Are these the same across the Scorpio range (or for other Fords of similar age). Tricks are well appreciated .
