Fuel Tank Strap Bolts Spinning

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice as to how people have dropped their fuel tanks... This morning I tried to remove the two 13mm hex bolts which secure the fuel tank straps, got both of them to rotate a turn or 2 but they now just spin along with what feels like a square plate/nut behind the mounting points. Problem is not only will they not undo but as the plate is spinning I can't do them back up either! Though i'd ask if anyone else has had this problem and figured out a way to do it before I get the grinder out... Matt

There's really not much you can do, but to cut it off (but use a handsaw please ), unless you are able to keep the plate in place while undoing it. You cut it, remove it and put new stainless steel nuts and bolts and never have the problem again.

If it's the same type of fitting as on a Sierra then the captive nut is part of a clip which can be easily replaced. Use a hacksaw to cut through the bolts. I had to do this on my Sierra about 6 months ago and the replacement clips & bolts were still available from Fords then - not expensive either. Check with your FMD.

I'll try and use a handsaw Will pop down the FMD tomorrow lunch see what they can do. Might get a new pair of straps aswell if they can still be sourced as the current ones look as though they've seen better days... Thanks for the info
