Hi everyone!

First of all, I 'd like to warn you that I'm not native english speaker, so I apologise in forward for my bad english.
I'm from Croatia, and recently bought 1997 2.3 Ghia Scorpio in great condition, IMO great car, and also very rare on croatian roads.
I joined this forum because I need some advice from experinces Scorpio owners.
I have a few questions for you, and if you could help me I would be much obliged.
1) I need to change auto box fluid, so I was wandering is it OK to pour in "Valvoline DexronIII/ Mercon ATF oil",
I'm not sure what was previous owner using.
2)Is it possible to buy in UK an aftermarket screen filter and pan gasket for a resonable price via online shopping, because her in Croatia an original from Ford is around 120 pounds, a little bit to expensive , I think...or maybe is it possible just to clean an old filter when changing oil?
Thanks!!!

1) yes

2) try www.fordpartsuk.com
Your box is an A4LDE, you may find them at a spare parts dealer also. Don't bother cleaning it.

As thudkvi states Send Trevor Porter your VIN number and I am sure he will source the parts out for you.
He has been dealing with the forum guys and gals for a long time now. Tell him you come from the forum.
Dextron lll is OK for the box as long as it meets the ford specification it will be OK . Others will know more than I on this one .
Changing the filter and oil in the auto box is messy job but is relatively easy to do.

http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/c/transmission_components_450/

This is what you need. I bought an equivalent kit from 3rd party for around 28 euros.

Thanks guys,
Fordpartsuk quoted me almost 100 pounds including shipment, and that's little bit to much, so I just ordered an aftermarket filter kit from USA for around 30 USD including shippment.
Coud you tell me why is it stated in autobox manual that for my Scorpio 2.3 16v needs to be used ATF with Ford specs WSS-M2C202-B which I found to be Mercon V.
So, is plain Mercon/Dexron III spec oil good enough?

Hi,

Just make sure the kit is for A4LDE not A4LD, otherwise the gasket is the same but the filter is different (somehow).

There is also Comma AQ202, you could also check this link out http://www.jagplanet.com/tips/mercon-v It seems the Ford spec can be met to 100% with an additive called Lubegard M-V.

I checked with a local autobox rebuilder/parts importer. All self-respecting specialist shops should carry this "Lubegard M-V", at his shop it was 14 euros for a bottle. There is no harm in putting the additive in uncertain situations (e.g. where Dexron III is specified and later models use Mercon V). The "native" Mercon V is much more expensive than Dexron III (over here it's double price), and the bottle has enough for the entire oil change.

Hope this info is of any use.
