Wheel spacers

Anyone ever noticed that the 12 spoke alloys with 225/50/16 tyres seem to be almost flush with the lips on the front wheel arches, but are alot more inset on the rear arches ?
Looks a little strange...don't you think ? 
Anyone ever fitted spacers to the rear wheels to try & make it look a bit more hunky ? 
I've got some 3mm & 6mm 4/5 stud spacers in the shed (used to use them on my MK1 granny). The 3mm might be okay, but I'm thinking the 6mm might be a little too much.....It'll be interesting to see the results

I seem to recall wheel spacers were popular many years ago and was going to use some on a car I had back in the 80's but was put off by what I read in a car magazine - that they place extra stress on wheel bearings...and we all know that rear wheel bearings are a bit of a known weak point on our Scorpios, don't we.
I wouldn't go there...

I had 16mm spacers on mine (came with it), but I took them off and sold them. The wheel could sometimes touch the wheelarch so I saw not so much sense in them. My winter tyres are 205/65R15 with ET50 Mondeo rims. Here they could be useful, but not for the 12-spoke. Plus, it would have required different wheel studs.

I've been using 5mm spacers on rear, just because my rims center cap doesn't fit in without spacer. Never noticed any drawbacks
I recommend getting spacers with at least made to one PCD (4x108 ) and if possible, but costs more, also to certain central bore. "Universal" spacers which are made for any pcd and any bore are just difficult to set and centralize in place and they cause easily extra vibrations.
And not sure but, at least my 5mm spacers didn't need longer wheel studs. 8mm maybe? But talking about 10 or more, definitely yes.

Tecko....I know what you mean by trying to centralise them .... Mine are cheapo ones that don't fit snug over the hub, so could do with spigot rings to properly centralise them

5mm is not much, and I must say it's weird the centre cap doesn't take the length of the wheel studs into account. Anyway, here's some pics of my old ones. They were superb quality, at one point I thought they were part of the hub:

Oh and the studs I had used were +25mm length, 10mm more than necessary, but on the 12-spoke the cap still went on.
