24 valve Auto box dipstick fitment

I traced a leak of Auto-box fluid to the dipstick tube holder where it comes out of the Auto-box. So I went down to my local Ford people for advice. The tube that exits the Auto-box is held in place by an "o" ring, not sold seperately = cost of new Tube aprox 90 gbp. Ok, not if I can help it. Now then I have my scrapper 12 valve to hand and my question is will the 12 valve dipstick and tube fit into the 24 valve autobox? If that fails will I be able to use the "o" ring from the 12 valve to replace the leaking "o" ring in the 24 valve? Mike

I have an o-ring making kit - if you can tell me the size of the o-ring I'll get one in the post to you.

I have quite a few 'O' rings in different sizes kicking about - send the measurement and I'll have a look to see if I have one.

Thanks. I'll try to remove the old "O" ring tomorrw, depends on the Weather and domestic stuff, I like to eat. One point: I think it will have to be Transmissiion Fluid compatible.

Just go into your local autobox man and he'll likely give you one, they come in the rebuild kits and very few box builders ever fit them lol Dave

I managed to get some sealant around the joint this morning and have just returned from drive of about 7miles and no drips to be seen so far. Just another quick check before I post this email........ One drip on the ground, two on one of the cooler pipes, maybe, hopefully a leftover. Mmmmm we'll see. I let her tick over for a few mins. which should have produced a steady flow and lots of drips which did not happen. If the first option fails it looks like I will have to lower the offside exhaust in order to access the filler pipe securing bracket bolt. Not happy about that prospecet. Not happy at all. Mike
