aircon pump

Further to my request in parts wanted for aircon pump, I had more or less decided to do without ac, so this morning i switched ac button off, went on journey of a few miles, pulled up to check if all was ok, when suddenly compressor switched on automatically, checked and ac button was off. Then i read Kenboys reply to my request and he has a good point, this is my second secondhand pump, so he has a point, i was thinking to get new shorter belt to bypass pump, but Kenboy says to remove relay 24, does that bypass ac all together?? Sorry to ramble on

I read somewhere recently for a model without AC there's a "dummy" idler pulley where AC pump would be so don't think there's such a thing as a shorter belt. (?) 'Least that's what mine's got I believe. If one was going to dump the AC altogether I'm guessing cheapest option might be drain it all so there's no load on the pump so it's like an idler, maybe take out the AC radiator as well (?). Makes for more air for the cooling radiator

Gost. If you pull the compressor plug out,the clutch can't operate and the pulley will spin free,or as Ken says remove relay 24.You can get belts of virtually any length you desire from a motor factor. GOZZ.

I fitted the shorter non aircon model belt to mine, as the pulley fell to pieces and was making grinding sounds. Although it takes a different path to the non aircon model, it was the right length to bypass the pulley. It's been like that for a couple of years. I've left all the relays and connections in place, one day I'll get the new pump fitted. Chris
