Hello. just recently i've been hearing a Phsssss sound just after i start the car and on my way home from work. It's like the sound that comes from a car that has nitrogen gas when they put there foot down.. Phsssss..... I noticed tonite when i turned on the tempreture control switch, maybe a coincidence....... Don't seem to be a problem, Just wondering what it might be..........
Cheers

It could be your ac drains, they drip onto the exhaust, and with the hot weather they work over time

Might also be the fuel vapour canister thingy ( cant remember what the darned thing is called now...You know the little cylinder under the expantion bottle ) !!!!!. Anyhow i remember that making a similar noise on the red scrapper me & Matt had. Might be venting due to high tempretures / pressure...Just a thought Smiley

Yup.  Yesterday pm., I was changing brake fluid and although I had not even started the car the "phssss sound" happened at least 4 times as the Sun went in and out.

Maybe 'Tons_of_fun' has a point, especially if it's affected by sun temperature......possibly a faulty evap canister purge valve (situated down the side of the drivers side engine bay), or maybe a hole in the pipe that feeds the valve from the purge canister or a hole in the pipe that goes from the valve to the inlet manifold  Undecided ....Smiley

Just had a proper read of this thread.   My 2.3 does this just after start-up when the air-con automatically kicks in if the dial setting is anywhere near the screen.   It then does it a couple more times if I just let the car sit on tick-over, naturally the fans are on half speed as well.   I noticed it back in winter when I needed to start the car and put the screen heater on, and give it a few minutes before driving.
