Windscreen replacement

Can anyone recommend a reliable windscreen service in the Woking/Guildford area? My Cossie has a long horizontal crack which will be an MOT failure so I need a new screen. I previously had one fitted by the RAC on my old estate, and the fitter made a very good job of it, but it would seem the RAC no longer offer a screen service so I can't go back to them unfortunately. Do I need to be picky in this? I was dreading the job last time, but it was all carefully executed as I say. But usually whenever I pay a 'professional' to do anything on my car it gets bodged, so I'm a bit anxious. Any thoughts appreciated as always...

If it is not the only way is to try one of the firms such as Autoglass shown Here. The one called Screensaver reckons to beat any quote and covers the S/E of England.

Yes the insurance will cover it but I was more concerned about getting a good job done. I spose it's not difficult for the fitters once they have done a few. Just don't want some goon doing my one for the first time like the idiot who did my towbar and ruined my rear bumper in the process.

Jeff. I think you will find most insurance companies use Autoglass. In fact usually you ring Autoglass, quote your certificate details and they will tell you if there is any excess for example, and whether they deal with your Ins Co. Personally I've never had any problems with them.

Yes, it was Autoglass who fitted mine, the fitter came to my house to do it and I watched his every move.

Looks like it will be Autoglass as you say. Thanks for your thoughts, I'll get them to come to me as I did with the RAC. If a good job is done, then I think a chocolate biscuit might be in order. I know, I spoil them.

The local two man garage which I use for MOT’s and the occasional work which I do not tackle myself recommended ‘Fast Fit Nationwide Ltd’. They suggested that I avoid the RAC. Head office is at Bromsgrove, Tel 01527 575729. Fast Fit recommended not to change the surrounding seal as the original would fit and look better and would avoid purchasing a replacement surround. The work was carried out at my home by two operatives who also replaced the worn out internal mirror which I had previously acquired from the manufacturers free of charge under their life time warranty. The replacement on my 24v Ultima was to my entire satisfaction and was carried out on the 21st. December 2007. Including VAT the charge was £246.75
