Cat heat shield

My cat heat shield is no longer attached & is rattling about......so what are my options ? Can it just be removed/discarded ?.....will it fail the next MOT if removed ?.....will passengers get toasted feet from the footwell, or more worryingly, will it catch dry grass alight if parked when hot ? All the wadding came out if it a couple of years ago, so it probably hasn't been doing much for a while anyway Any suggestions ?

Not had a heat shield on mine for most of the time I've owned it, doesn't seem to be a problem. Don't think I've parked on long grass so can't comment on that.

The exhaust will be just as hot and nearer to the grass than the cat Jonny, if you've parked it on the grass before and its not gone on fire it shouldnt make any difference now. I've set dry moss on fire with the Suzuki while off road before http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook096.gif

Always wondered what that stuff was looked like wire wool hanging out the bottom nearly touching the floor, disappeared with the old cat. The shields went to the metal skip at the local recycling place.
