Stripping BOB 24V Engine/Box

Im about to finally start stripping out the engine/box from my Estate car in order to provide the required heart transplant for my Essex Police Car.
Does anybody have any useful tips for doing this so I dont encounter too many pitfalls along the way?
Also are there any useful parts I should grab along the way that will be useful to me in the future?
The PATS system is worrying my slightly. Do I need the ignition lock etc or will the new engine work with my old key?

I've forgotten what you have, are you moving a 24v from a Scorpio to another Scorpio? (the police one) what engine did it have originally?

If it was just a mechanical engine problem and not a wiring problem then just swapping the engine and plugging it into the original loom should be all thats required.
Easy way is to drop the subframe and remove the whole lot in one.
or cut the front off the car
Partswise I take it you mean removing parts from the engine thats being replaced?
If so then the usual alternator,starter etc
engine loom, handy to have a spare, still available new but too expensive!
Radiator
Waterpump (usually not available new anymore)
Coolant hoses, especially the one that goes through the front of the NS head down to the thermostat (again not available)
Thermostat (£100 plus for a new one)
manifolds
Timing chain tensioners
Camshafts (these give the BOA engine a healthy Bhp boost and should fetch £100 on ebay)
Crank and camshaft sensors
Idle control valve
any gaskets you can salvage
coil pack
EDIS unit
basically everything you can take off it

If you are scrapping the shell that the engine is coming out of , then cut away the cross member with the bonnet latch on. It makes pulling the engine out so much easier.
If you are going to split the engine and gearbox , don't forget to drain the transmission fluid as it pours out when you pull them apart. ( guess who's got an oily garage floor now !!!! )

The oil won't pour out if you remove the convertor with the transmission as should be done to avoid damage.

Highlander, thanks for the heads up of whats still available and whats not.
The Police car appears to have a mechanical issue rather than electronic as it still drives, albeit lumpy on one bank of cylinders (passenger side) and suffers from what sounds like timing chain slap.
At the moment my priority is getting the 24V Estate out of the garage and gone as the Police car is at a mates house and he wants it shifted.
Im usually like a vulture when I strip a car. Hardly anything is left on it.
Thanks to Geoff and Gozz also. Im looking to take the engine and box out together so cutting the cross member could be the best option and drop the subframe off as Highlander said.
Im then looking to store the parts until Im brave enough to replace the engine in the Police car !
Lee, the wheels are still available. Car should be gone within a fortnight (my mate hopes!)

broken chain? or are they firing? they have been know to jump a cog on the timing chain sprockets if the guides are broken they are slapping around

They are firing. Its just really really lumpy and tappy in comparison to the engine in the Estate car.
