Scorpio 2 litre petrol, not my car. ABS light on

Some weeks ago whilst in Birmingham I parked beside a 2 litre Scorpio which does not have traction control.  I later discovered that the car belongs to a member of staff at the shop we had visited. Graham, the owner has never used a computer and knew nothing of our membership. He does his own servicing and general maintenance.

He has recently telephoned me.

The ABS light is now continually on and his MOT is one month away.

Graham has used a local independent garage in Halesowen who have told him that they believe that the pump has failed but that a replacement is no longer available. They have stated that the sensors on the wheels are not faulty.

Due to my age I am not personally able to help him but does anyone have a pump. As an aside does the printed circuit board come with the pump as I remember that the 12 volt pins can become open circuit and could possibly be re-soldered.

Suggestions and help welcome.

Malcolm.

The pump can be tested by unplugging it from the ABS controller and connecting directly to 12 volts. I don’t think I’ve seen on here of anyone having a motor failure.

If he’s got the “C1095 Hydraulic Pump Motor Circuit Failure” code, it’s most likely the ABS controller.

A blown ABS fuse (can’t remember which of the 2 fuses – F46 & F47) can also produce this code so he should check power is getting to the ABS multiplug (the two pairs of thick wires - both pairs being orange/yellow & black)  if you connect the pump directly to these you'll test the wiring, fuses & pump at the same time, but note these are permanently live.
The repair is here and applies to both types of controller:
