MORE power? Cosworth 24v

As I understand it the Cosworth 24v was originally a Race engine, that was de-tuned...or strangled for production. If that is the case, is it possible to extract say...a genuine 25bhp without too much pain...or is the first post of call a free flowing exhaust...Are there any little wrinkles that I should know about? Many thanks Bonnietiler

The race engine was the boa lump and was also fitted to the suprrvan 3, bob lumps were de tuned though, they run slightly retarted, a carefully modded and setup crank sensor will release a good bit of torque and do respond to a good exhaust, the heads are pretty good but can be made to flow s bit better, (the heads for my 4.0 engine have been ported and had s slight skim to up the compression a tad)

Fit the 4.27 diff more acceleration that you'll ever get by tuning the engine cheap and easy

Very true Stuart, But, as Matt says, make the CPS adjustable, so you can dial in a bit of advance, I found 3 degrees was optimum, and you WILL notice the difference too. It's free HP, and the BOB really does light up with a bit more advance A mate of mine does mapping for lots of major motor manufacturers, and he said Fords ran the 24V retarded to kill "excessive" torque, as well as over gearing them in the diff. Just a PC excersise to appease the insurance companies I guess Cheers Dave

I wouldn't I'd only use an aftermarket management system if going Turbo and removing VIS, other than that, stock EECV with a bit more advance via CPS, decent exhaust and decat, and a proper induction tube / filter / cold air feed. Leave heads well alone unless going up in capacity These engines are already pretty good and don't need a lot to give good reliabe HP, (consider who built them) Cheers Dave

So what is the CPS mod? Is it just modifying the bracket that holds the cps?

Do estate ones fit do you know? a friend of mine took one out of an estate, and the frame appeared to be bonded in! so they cut the roof out round it, but it broke! or do you mean just the opening bit glass, sliders motor etc. there is another one there, also estate.
