Leaking 24v waterpump spindle?

Hi,
noticed small amount of coolant on garage floor this morning so looked under engine whilst ticking over. Drops of coolant hitting crankshaft pulley from around the water pump.

Concerned this is a leaking water pump spindle so expect pump will need replacing.

If so, will a 2nd hand do or best to go for a brand new 1 (are they still available)?

Cheers

Sounds exactly like imminent water pump failure.
New pump is not cheap but considerably less than the cost of dealing with a head gasket failure or a wrecked engine.
I would try and get a new one as s/h are always an unknown quantity, only go for s/h if new not available.

Good Evening Pegasus,

On the 26th. October 2010 I received a quote of £171.56  from Ford Parts U.K. including carriage and VAT at 17.5%.

Before quoting the above price I received photographs asking me to confirm whether the one aluminium pipe pointed upwards. My local garage said they could obtain an ‘After market’ pump for about £60.  I gave them the whole job to supply and fit.

On removing the original pump it transpired that the replacement pump had the correct bolt holes but the aluminium hose connection was at the wrong angle.

Ultimately a new  Ford pump was fitted which was identical to the Ford Parts U.K. supplied photograph and at roughly the same price.

There does seem to be some confusion in that identical part numbers are used for two slightly different pumps. They will both bolt to the engine correctly but the rubber hose will not conect because of the angle of the aluminium pipe.

If doing this job you could also consider the condition of the drive belts.

Yes, the pumps for the 24v BOA engine (Granada) and 24v BOB engine are different.

Thanks Guys,
already got a quote request into FPUK and got a good 2nd hand 1 as back up (but no gasket).

Malcolm, I take it that the 'after market' pump turned out to be for the BOA engine?
