torquing the head bolts!

Well having looked at changing the head 2-3 -16v i am still unsure about this procedure, on the new bolt pack box, it reads, 6 stages. in sequence. 1 tighten to 18lb -25 N/m 2 tighten to 40lb-55N/m 3 slacken 90 deg. 1/4 turn, 4 tighten to 40lb 55Nm 5 Tighten 1/4 turn 6 tighten 1/4 turn On the pdf diagram, it reads bolt no1- 21-167 (i realise this is the torque spanner size!) then 40Nm. then 55 Nm. Could someone advise please, my concern is the total final extra 2 x 1/4 turns, surely this would take the Nm over 55 . i dont want to get it wrong as i did before, with a new head, Thanks Bob

that all seems correct. the torque only gives the initial bite to get the head seated & the tension equal on all bolts, after that its all degrees.
