Opening tailgate from inside

I have two estates. One tailgate only opened with the remote fob. But it's been lost..... Is it possible to open the tailgate from the inside and possibly leave the trim off to make it easier in the future? Alternatively, is it an option to reprogram the fob from one car to open the tailgate on the other? Thanks, Steve

Cheers, I wasn't sure if the fob was coded to the car. When it's open I'll try to figure out some way of operating it manually from the inside as I don't want to have to keep reprogramming it. It doesn't have to be a glamorous fix as I'm stripping down the car for spares but need to keep it locked at night. Steve

A bit of string tied to the tailgate lever and run over the back seat

That's about right But can the trim be removed from the inside to give access to the locking mechanism. I read a similar post here but the chap ended up going to a locksmith.

it must be possible, i've done it in the past by going in through the rear seats but cant remember how! through the grab handle holes on the tailgate maybe? maybe it was by removing the plastic window surround...

Ok, screwdriver (and lower back support) at the ready I'll give it a go this evening. Tried to prise out the CC panel at lunchtime by following the instructions on Instrument Bulbs but don't have a tool slim enough - even a stanley knife blade failed to get into the gap without marking the trim.

if you're stripping the car just remove the wood effect dash and you can access the CC panel clips from the rear

I still need to get the CC panel off the new car to fit the bulbs for the old one... that's where the problem lies. The old car doesn't have CC but I'm assuming the bulbs are the same.

If it's not been said already Steve, it is very easy to open the tailgate, by removing the plastic window surround, (very flexible at the bottom of the screen!) just pull is out the way, and with a torch you can see down to where the other side of the button is, get your hand in and move the mechanism that the button moves, good luck. | Yep,that was me. However the guy(the strip-down man) that, arrived into work late, after the locked had been Professionally Picked the lock; said that it is possible to trip the release latch at the bottom in the centre of the tailgate. I have since looked at mine. I have serious doubts because of the location of the lever arm and pin within the recess of the moulded trim. What may be an option (once you have gained access) is to tie a fine strong cord onto the finger end of the lever arm and put a loop on the end to engage a hook(piece of wire coat-hanger)leaving with just enough length on the cord to locate it,but not hanging out under the tailgate.
