loom wiring differences

The loom on my 95 2.0l ultima is starting to degrade slightly, finis no 95XM 9H589 CC.

On my loom, a sensor on the front of the engine is a push on with one single black/green wire, no 19 in the block.  I have noticed on a replacement loom, 96XM 9H589 CC, that a two wire connector is used, not a push on, blue/black in 19 and black in 13 on the block.

Question, why the difference and can the black wire in block 13 of the replacement loom be omitted and wired in purely on the blue/black wire in 19 as a push on??
Sorry to say electrics are not my forte.   Lee

There have been 2 other posts on this recently.
Is the replacement a new one supplied to suit the VIN of your car?

If all other wires are of suitable length & go to the correct pins on the big block plug then you should be able to modify it to suit your temp sender. The 2 wire plug that you appear to have is used on the 2.3 engines because they have a plastic manifold & therefore require a fed earth.

Alternatively you could use a 2 wire sensor if you don’t want to modify the loom.

Hi Tompion. The loom  was a possible repair job from highlander. All the other wires are the same except for this one. I am assuming the black wire in no.13 is the earth wire. Can I just omit using it and wire the push on plug to the wire in no.19.  ee

Is pin 13 there on the old loom?
If it is you may need to earth the black wire as it's possible pin 13 is needed/spliced into one of the other earths on the 2.0 loom.
