Oil leak rear of engine 2.0L 16v

I have got an oil leak on my 2.0L 16v engine.

The car has not turned a wheel in over two months while I was trying to get the fuel problem fixed. Took ages to get the intake manifold and the cylinders drained of petrol. I eventually got that sorted and now I have this oil leak. I can't figure out where exactly it is coming from. It appears to be from just below and behind the exhaust manifold at the rear of the engine.

Has anyone any ideas as to where it might be coming from?

Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Long shot but could it be the breather hose / plastic connector at back of rocker box (?)

Dipstick? or more specifically the tube?

Is it an auto? maybe transmission fluid leaking from the autobox pipes?

I had oil leak in that area that took a while to figure...was the pan at the bottom   ..even when tightened all screws still leaked....would be worse when engine cold... overnight

looked like was coming from bell housing seal

had to get new seal made .....silicone rubber now fine

Thank you for all your replies, they are very much appreciated.

Mike - the oil appears from about the centre of the engine rearwards below the exhaust manifold on the N/S. I have had a look at the breather but it does not appear to be coming from there.

Pedro - I cannot see the leak being that low causing the oil to come as high as the underside of the manifold. I am just back home after being away all day with the grandchildren so I will get underneath tomorrow and see if there is any sign of it coming from the sump or thereabouts.

There is a breather behind the exhaust manifold that links to the inlet manifold.
You can see it in the bottom drawing of page 2 of this PDF:

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engines/dohc16v/DOHC16VDismant.pdf

At the bottom of the drawing slightly to the right of the manifold you can see an angled filter connected to a pipe that goes around the back of the engine to the inlet.

Hi Tompion

I had a look at the breather behind the exhaust (which was very hard to get at) and it is covered with oil.

The pipe is still connected and it feels intact. I used a mirror and torch to have a look and I was able to get my hand onto the breather and the pipe and it is still connected to the metal tube of the breather. The other end is still connected to the metal pipe that runs around the back of the engine. All this makes it hard to tell if the oil is coming from there.

I suppose the only way to tell is to take the exhaust manifold off and have a good look. I will get round to doing that at the weekend and I will get back to you with my findings.

Thank you for all your help.

That's the trouble with oil, where you see it is not necessarily where it's coming out Grin
