i scrapped 6 last weekend  Grin

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OT;action=displa y;num=1307309671

i reckon a complete one (minus tyres and battery) should make around £220 if you take it yourself.

probably £100 if its collected

I got £180 for an estate with no engine, diff, shocks or interior.

I had a shell with a 24v block and gearbox in it make £155

if you look at Matts thread RE: what to keep when breaking one it would be worth your while removing a few parts before it goes.

Camshafts
calipers
waterpump
EDIS unit
coil pack
CC panel and the module behind it
Sunroof motor
Radio
CD changer with loom (loom is a bit fiddly to remove)

can be removed fairly easily and will see some decent money back on ebay

Diff and rear shocks are a bit more time consuming but worth good money on ebay, maybe £50 a shock and £100 tops for the diff

Stop this disgraceful talk of scrapping now!

Start thinking negetive and we are all lost. Keep calm and carry on.

Now. Get your tool out and go fix.

Sorry....tools.

Lol it would be nice to keep them all!

Sometimes you just need to remember that while it may be a Scorpio, its only an old car  Grin

And a great source of spare parts for your other old cars  Grin

Jeff, when you get a mighty yard full like Highlander has,it is not possible to do them all up,he can only drive one at a time anyway (I think! ) ,it will be some little time until these cars rise in value,at the moment they languish in the hundreds, that's because few people want them, therefore any monies spent will be because the owner is fond of the car,not with a view to making any profit !

Difficult to do it sometimes though  Grin

The ones I scrap always have a major problem, usually bodywork, wiring looms or they have a 16v or 12v engine  Grin

never brought myself to break a good one yet.

From a purely financial point of view a Scorpio is just not worth spending serious cash on to keep it running.

Different if you really like the car and are prepared to pay over its value to keep it on the road.

Still the parts I keep from the scrapped ones should keep my good ones on the road for a good while and the money from scrap and parts goes into the Keep the Scorpio running fund Grin

ro284 the more bits you can break it down into the more cash you will make from it.

I bought a 2 litre auto Ultima saloon recently for £100 off Gumtree.

3 months tax and mot left, loden green, pumice interior, bodywork and interior perfect, only faults were a small crack on both bumpers.

chap had bought two new cars, Galaxy and a Merc and the Scorpio was no longer needed.

he advertised it on gumtree 6 months ago for £800 then it slowly dropped to £700, £600, £500 etc

When it came down to £200 i emailed and offered £100 and he told me to come and get it, I was the only person who had called him about it in 6 months...

Saying that it was a LOT better than i expected it to be, I've bought some right wrecks in the past for £250 Grin

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they are not popular cars at all, plus the mpg isnt great even on the 2 litre Grin

I'm hoping to buy my 3rd Scorp this weekend, and will be quite content with it knowing that whilst it might be ugly in most people's eyes I know it is an exceptionally well-made car and delivers excellent performance. Why spend 10k or more on something that is no better...that's my attitude.
That and the old deep pocket/short arm syndrome....
Seems to me many spend a lot more money 'servicing' newer cars than we are likely to spend keeping these old barges going.

Never a truer word spoken............

I replaced an EGR Valve on a 45,000 mile Diesel Mazda 3 a few weeks ago for a customer...............

It was on back order for 10 weeks and cost £430  Roll Eyes

BTW, if any of you guys scrapping Scorpio's have any 15" steel wheel rims I need 6 to 8 to fit Gravel tyres on for me Puma Rally Car Wink

Cheers Dave
