The VIN plate under the bonnet can tell you which diff ratio your car has.

Sierra XR4i's are great...especially when fitted with 4WD Smiley

Yep Gozz is correct, the Saloon and estate were specified different in the Ford literature but this is incorrect (possibly Granada specs?)

the diff ratio is matched to the engine irrespective of the body type

ENGINE  RATIO

2.0   8v   4.09
2.0 16v   4.27
2.3 16v   3.91
2.9 12v   3.64
2.9 24v   3.64
2.5 TD    3.36

if yours are both 24v's they SHOULD be 3.64 but you may find one on the odd occasion that has been swapped for a different ratio.

What do you mean re: replacing them? cost wise?

Very ambiguous question that ,depends entirely upon what someone would sell you one for.If you needed a garage to change it,they might need about three hours.Or maybe you are selling yours eh ?.

Some ratios are still available new from Ford but are probably going to cost around the value of your car  Grin

Second hand ones can be picked up from just a few quid depending on the ratios, the 4.27,  4.09, 3.36 are very popular with kit car builders/track racers etc

4.27's can go for a fair bit, £200 plus

the 3.64 from your 24v's might make £100 each on ebay

I have bought two 4:27's recently from breaking 2.0 scorpio's for £60 and £65. Price will vary on owners knowledge of use.
